The Project

As part of its 50th Anniversary celebration, the Akron Zoo opened the Lehner Family Zoo Gardens. The one-acre garden includes approximately 7,300 plants and some small animal exhibits, all native to Ohio. Stamped concrete pathways resemble brick and meander past fountains located throughout the garden. “Nature’s Classroom,” an educational, interactive message center also focusing on native Ohio plants and animals, sits nestled in the woods behind the gardens. In the “Gardener’s Shed”, visitors can learn about the types of animals found in their own backyard.
